How Can We Fix Congress?

The email bag bustles and bristles with all the crap that it gets

Here is a guy who says, " I agree with [most of the positions of term limitations] except the first one; term limits.

Although I thoroughly agree with term limits, the 2 year representative term is too short.  They never get out of the campaign mode and down to business before they have to start with another campaign.  They therefore will never do anything that may risk re-election for another 2 years.  Too recent in our memory.  Also, do you know what a waste of money it is to elect people every 2 years?"

[OK, you are right, it is a lot of $$ to elect people every two years. Let's figure out how to make it less expensive without giving away the country]  I would suggest that at the half way point of say, a three year term there was a way for the American public to vote to send the rep home. Send them right then with severance pay package of full benefits plus 1/10 salary.  If they are just bad, but not that bad then they can serve out their term at full salary and a vote at the end may reduce their full term to 5/10 salary. Either way, we get a new guy.

This is a good way to fix Congress -- It came from the mail bag.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!!

A friend sent this along to me. I can't think of a reason to disagree.

I am sending this to virtually everybody on my e-mail list and that includes conservatives, liberals, and everybody in between. Even though we disagree on a number of issues, I count all of you as friends.  My friend and neighbor wants to promote a "Congressional Reform Act of 2009". It would contain eight provisions, all of which would probably be strongly endorsed by those who drafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

I know many of you will say, "this is impossible".  Let me remind you, Congress has the lowest approval of any entity in Government, now is the time when Americans will join together to reform Congress - the entity that represents us.

We need to get a Senator to introduce this bill in the US Senate and a Representative to introduce a similar bill in the US House.  These people will become American hero's..

Thanks,

A Fellow American  read on....
